Hotel planned near LeConte Center - Pigeon Forge, TN
The Grand Hotel site was demolished last month. At the time, city officials said it appeared the site would remain vacant for the foreseeable future after developers decided to relocate to Jake Thomas Road. Now officials with Chartwell Hospitality say they subdivided the 7.2 acre property and hope to start work in May on the site nearest Jake Thomas Road.
The hotel, named The Black Fox Lodge, will have 178 rooms with a different design from the Grand Hotel said Chartwell Hospitality spokesman Will Schaedle. These rooms are geared towards families and groups with bigger room layouts and small kitchens in each room.
The change in styles was one of the reasons developers decided to scrap plans to renovate the old building and start fresh.
The site will feature a "resort-type" pool with a water slide, 5,000 square feet of meeting space, a bar and a restaurant that serves lunch and dinner. A free breakfast will also be available, according to information from Chartwell.
The main entrance will come off North River road, with patios on the rear of many rooms facing the West prong of the Little Pigeon River and the pool along Jake Thomas Road.
It will be across Jake Thomas from the LeConte Center at Pigeon Forge. Schaedle said he hopes the hotel will complement the event facility. Chartwell feels like our proximity is great, and the LeConte Center will benefit from us and we'll benefit from being right across from it.
The work on the lodge is expected to be finished in the fall of 2016.
